Jamie Foxx is an Oscar-winning Actor,
but No Class Act

After making hurtful and insulting remarks about Miley Cyrus on a Sirus radio show, Jamie Foxx publically apologized to Miley on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno. Witnessing the apology, it sounded like Mr. Foxx was more annoyed at the public outrage created by his remarks than genuinely sorry for saying what he said about Miley. He tried to excuse his remarks by stating that was he was making a joke and that as a comedian, he tells jokes. Unfortunately the "joke" in Mr. Foxx's remarks was missing in action. After objectively examining his remarks, my conclusion was that there was no humor to be found. What was found were remarks that were surprising, especially coming from an Academy Award-wining actor and also someone who had just participated in Country music's most celebrated event of the year, the annual Country Music Awards. Say it ain't so that this talented young Oscar-winning actor fails to grasp the level of respect he has achieved in the entertainment industry and is likely to throw it all away by behaving like someone who does not know how to act (behave - pun intended).

To say that Mr. Foxx's behavior is disappointing would be an understatement. This matter goes beyond disappointing because Miley Cyrus is a minor. Why would any grown man tell a minor to make a sex tape, do heroin or have a lesbian affair? That is not funny. Of a truth, regarding this matter someone does need to grow up, but that person is not Miley Cyrus! After thinking about this, the thought came, "What if Jamie Foxx had said this to Miley Cyrus face to face. Could he be charged with a crime for encouraging a minor to do wrong?"

A Bright Side for Miley and the Cyrus Family

Although the words spoken by Mr. Foxx were inappropriate, they do reveal the general image associated with Miley Cyrus. That image is that of a wholesome teenager. If one objective of the Cyrus family is to be a light in a dark world, then they are achieving their objective. If Miley's overall image as an entertainer and an individual was not positive, Mr. Foxx would not have made those remarks. While this situation was indeed a crude and hurtful way to receive a compliment, nonetheless the compliment is there - even if it did come as a backhanded slap.

Wanted: A Debonair Oscar-winning Actor

When thinking about Oscar-winning actors, one word comes to mind - debonair. That image is exemplified by Sidney Poitier and Denzel Washington. It would be hard to imagine Mr. Poitier or Mr. Washington making hurtful and insulting remarks about a minor on a live radio show. The image that these two acclaimed actors project is graciousness. It would be nice if Jamie Foxx would join that club.
