One Viewer Glad to See Conan Go
|
|
I am one television viewer who is glad to see Conan leave The Tonight Show. I watched Conan's show a few times when he was host of Late Night and I did not like what I saw. When NBC announced that Conan would be taking over The Tonight Show, I was disappointed. I immediately thought it would ruin The Tonight Show because of Conan's rubbish that masqueraded as humor.

When the first episode of The Tonight Show with Conan O'Brien as host aired, I watched the opening. After the opening I was completely bored with the show. I did not even stay tuned in long enough to see Conan's very first guest. I never bothered to watch again. So a short time later when I read in TV Guide that Conan was losing in the ratings, I was not surprised.
The outcry concerning Conan leaving The Tonight Show puzzled me. If Conan was not doing well in the ratings, why are people outraged because he chose to leave the show? Are these people the viewers who did watch Conan faithfully? If they are, do they know that relative to the number of late night talk show viewers they are in the minority? If Conan was not winning in the ratings, how could his exit be so controversial? Maybe the controversy is being driven by a minority of late night talk show viewers who just make the most noise. It is clear they were not strong enough in numbers to help Conan win the ratings race.
Maybe it would be better for Conan to have a show on a Network that caters to rubbish that masquerades as humor. For me, Conan's exit from The Tonight Show is good riddance to bad rubbish.
